Cigar Review | CAO America

It’s Stog o’Clock, and this time, I check out the CAO America. This cigar has been around for some time, but this is the first time I’ve been able to give it a test run. For this review, I smoke the Monument size – a 6.2×54 Torpedo. The cigar has a pinstriped wrapper featuring both Connecticut Broadleaf and Connecticut Shade leaves. Inside is a Brazilian binder with all ligero fillers from Italy, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and the United States.

On the cold draw, I pick up light chocolate flavor. The wrapper produces a chocolate and earth aroma. Out of the foot, I smell much of the same with some hay. Once lit, my palate is blasted with black pepper, leather, and dark cocoa. Through the nose, I’m hit with a potent mix of red pepper and leather. The finish gives me a spicy tobacco flavor alongside more black and red pepper.

After thirty-five minutes, the first third comes to a close. The cigar tones the spice down slightly. On the draw, I find salty leather with some earth and dark coffee. The retro-hale features creamy cocoa with black pepper. On the finish, there is a huge bomb of black pepper flavor alongside oak and char. Both strength and body settle in at the medium-to-full mark.

The second third gets me to one hour and twenty minutes. The draw offers more leather, and the earthy flavor from the first third is now very vegetal. Through the nose, I pick up a delicious black cherry note with roasted almond. The finish consists of dark chocolate with more black pepper and char. There is no change to strength or body.

The final third ends at a whopping two hours. I find charred cedar on the draw on top of very spicy red pepper and toast. On the retro-hale, there is more black cherry with a creamy earth and additional toast. The finish is bold and delicious with leather, dark coffee, and sweet molasses. Strength and body finish out at the medium-to-full mark.

CAO America

The CAO America is tasty cigar with a very reasonable retail price of $7. The melting pot of tobaccos creates a unique, complex experience with delicious flavor. It has great construction, and the presentation is a nice cherry on top of this patriotic sundae. I definitely recommend trying it out.

A special thanks goes out to my buddy David for sending this to me for review. Thank you, brother!

Smoke on!
