FDA Told You to Quit and It’s Time…

Since you’re ready to allow the FDA to tell you what to do. It’s time for adults to stop enjoying one of their favorite pastimes.

August 5, 2015, I attended a funeral. One of my former coworkers and fishing buddies had passed away. It was a sad day, but we remembered the good times that were shared in years past. As we laughed and joked, I was blissfully unaware that the FDA had coiled tightly and struck with a deadly vengeance.

You see on this day, the FDA decided that cigars were a danger to the American public and we needed to protect from ourselves. Despite previous hopes, the premium cigar industry did not get the exemption it lobbied for. The FDA chose option one which was the most severe of the two routes. There would be no exemption for premium cigars. To date, the new rules are slated to take effect on August 8, 2007. Of course, the cigar industry is preparing a legal response, but we will see what happens.

FDA CIGARS

So what should we do now family?

Well, the first thing I do is pull out a newly introduced boutique cigar to smoke and review. Who knows how much longer I will have access to this type of cigar. Today’s choice was created by the owners of Black Label Trading company James and Angela Brown. Last year they launched Black Works Studio or BLK WKS. Black Works allowed James and Angela to release limited release cigars quickly. But if the FDA has the final say, that will all but be over.

All products released after February 15, 2007, must be verified by the FDA. Manufacturers will continue selling their products for up to two years while they submit and 1 extra year while the FDA reviews each application for a new tobacco product. This will radically slow the stream of new cigars introduced to the marked that we have enjoyed for the last 5+ years.

Well if you want to see the full review of the Black Work Studios Rorschach, watch the video. Here are the highlights:

Now is the time to contact your elected officials again and voice your displeasure with this ruling. Will it change anything? Who knows. But it’s not over until it’s over. Is the end in sight?

BUY & HOLD

That’s my advice. If there is that favorite cigar that you cannot live without. Now just might be the time for you to learn how to make a coolidor and stock up.

GET OVER IT?

There are plenty of great cigars introduced to the market prior to August 8, 2007. You may have to find a new favorite cigar. Will the boutique cigars become the same as Cuban cigars in the USA? Legally unavailable but readily available to those who are plugged into the correct back channel?

Who knows family?
