Fabrica Oveja Negra announced today that it is moving their facility. Besides increasing the size of the production area and making space for aging the cigars, the company has plans to expand the operation to include a retail store and cigar lounge. Additionally factory visits will be arranged by appointment only.
Right now the factory produces cigars for Black Label Trading Company and Black Works Studio. On October 1st, the company aims to accommodate other cigar makers such as Nomad Cigar Company, Emilio Cigars and expand operations for Veritas Cigars.
Fabrica Oveja Negra Bold Move
The factory was first started in 2015 and focuses on quality cigars for clients big and small. A company representative stated, “Starting our own factory in 2015 was a natural progression for us. We needed the freedom to be as creative as possible and to have ownership of every process that goes into making our cigars, ensuring 100% quality from seed to ash.”
We find this expansion by Fabrica Oveja Negra to be interesting as FDA regulation looms large. It is a positive move to expand the production of small batch cigars. Perhaps Fabrica Oveja Negra and its owners know something we don’t. Do they foresee the FDA loosening its grip on the cigar industry with an exemption for premium cigars? With so much uncertainty in the market right now, their expansion is bold.
The new larger factory will be at located at off the Pan-American highway in Esteli with a tentative target opening date of October 1, 2017. While we see many boutique blenders disappearing, we see Fabrica Oveja Negra expanding. We welcome their tenacity and wish them the very best on their endeavor to continue to create excellent cigars.
