It’s Stog o’Clock, and this time, I check out the brand new Crowned Heads Le Carême in the Robusto size. This 5×50 slightly boxed pressed cigar features a rustic Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper with an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder and Nicaraguan fillers.
On the cold draw, I pick up a salty raisin-like note. The wrapper produces an earthy aroma, while I smell a potent raisin out of the foot. Once lit, the draw gives me cream with cocoa and black pepper. Through the nose, I pick up a simple, airy tobacco. The finish produces black pepper, cocoa, and coffee.
Twenty minutes in, the first third closes out. On the draw, I pick up salty dark cocoa with black pepper. Through the nose, I pick up what I can best describe as a spicy Milky Way – a phenomenal array of flavors. On the finish, espresso blends with leather and a hint of caramel. Strength and body settle in at the medium-to-full mark.
The second third finishes out at forty-five minutes. More dark chocolate and black pepper comes through on the draw. On the retro-hale, I continue to get the amazing spicy Milky Way notes. The finish bombs me with black pepper and a hint of cocoa. Strength and body remain at the medium-to-full mark.
The final third ends at one hour and ten minutes. There is no change to the draw. Through the nose, I pick up the same spicy Milky Way flavors along with some earthiness. On the finish, black pepper and char blend with espresso. Strength and body finish out at the medium-to-full mark.
The Crowned Heads Le Carême is a phenomenal cigar. It offers up some bold dessert flavors and a good amount of complexity. There aren’t a whole lot of transitions, but the flavors are so delicious, it doesn’t even matter. This is a must try cigar that I highly recommend.
