Asylum Schizo Cigars

The band looks very cheap and that’s okay because it’s a cheap cigar. Under no circumstances should anyone expect a cigar that is priced so low to have an outstanding appearance. It is worth adding that the band although, cheap, has an embossed logo and comes off so easily.

The maduro wrapper doesn’t look cheap at all. In fact, if you didn’t know it was a combination of short filler and long filler, you’d think you were in for a premium cigar. The combination of tobaccos rolled in this cigar is often referred to as a “Cuban Sandwich”.

Cuban Sandwich cigars are made from the pieces of tobacco from the premium line that are cut off to ensure that the premium cigars in the line have a consistent recipe.

The Asylum Schizo doesn’t have a strong aroma, there are hints of spice, sweetness and mostly tobacco. It is firmly packed and that’s due to its short filler core.

A Tip from a Friend

A friend of iROBUSTO, Oct Davis from the iROBUSTO Facebook Group, said he had a short filler cigar and rather than cut it, he recommended using a punch cut. In the review, a punch cut wasn’t used. Like Oct, Mark later used a punch cut and it enhanced the experience. The reason being is that the punch will extract a little bit of the tobacco that will get in the mouth and also gently punch a hole in the head of the cigar. It also made the draw a little more tight to ensure that the cigar didn’t heat up quickly…

…On it for a second time. This time I plugged it for a better smoking experience….

First Impression

The Asylum Schizo doesn’t have a strong aroma, there are hints of spice, sweetness and mostly tobacco. It is firmly packed and that’s due to its short filler core.

Beware of This

This cigar is short filler, it will burn fast. Smoking this cigar fast will result in bitterness and intense tobacco head buzz. You might even want to toss it before you get at the halfway point. Use your judgement and take it slow.

Strength and Body

As mentioned above this is a pretty strong cigar with somewhat muted mild to medium body flavors. It has a short finish.

Overall

This a blatantly average cigar, which is impressive considering its price. The Asylum Schizo is a Cuban Sandwich, it’s meant to be cheap and something that isn’t going to blow you away with complexity.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I love the Schizo in the 7 x 70 maduro. Solid construction and low price make this a nice cigar to keep in my coat pocket for emergencies.

7 x 70 is something I would like to try. These cigars probably could use some aging before smoking.

The first Schizo I purchased were the 6×60 and I thought they were great. I purchased the robusto simply because it was about six or seven bucks cheaper, but I was not impressed. In this case, the larger,t he better.

I will get some 6 x 60s on my next order and check them out. Thanks for watching the review!
