The Antaro – Tabacalera 5 Stars is made in Tamboril, Dominican Republic.
Wrapper: San Andrés
Filler: Criollo 98, Seco Cubano, San Vicente
Dimensions, Zest & Flavours
What are the flavours? There is a dark chocolate carob core. The cigar has some earth and mineral with a white pepper spicy finish. There are hints of wood and tobacco.
The cigar starts off with the flavors mentioned earlier and mostly a tobacco core. Early on there are tinges of sweet cedar wood and then the cigar moves toward a dark chocolate taste with the sweetness tapering off as the burn gets near near the cigar band.
Draw, Smoke Output & Finish
There was not a lot of smoke output from this cigar even though the cigar had a medium to medium-light draw. The finish on the palette is very short.
Strength, Vim & Vigor
The strength of the cigar is slightly above medium.
The presentation of smoke, burn, ash, coastline, draw, everything was superb. It burned well and didn’t require any touch ups. Towards the band passed the halfway point the flavors became very mild and a slight bitterness took over the cigar. This cigar could benefit from being packed with more tobacco and a tighter roll as well as some ligero.
I recommend giving it a try and also giving it some time in your humidor before smoking.
