XIKAR is one of the most respected names in the cigar accessory world. They changed the cigar cutter game with their teardrop-style cutters, and more recently, they released their newest innovation – the XIKAR XO cutter. I’ve had some time to use mine, so today, it’s on the review block.
This cutter comes in a mini-donut shape much thicker than the teardrop cutters. The version I own came in the Avalanche Gift Set which offers a limited white and black color scheme on both the XO cutter as well as a Volta lighter. The gift set retails for $219.99, though I was able to get it at a discount. MSRP on the cutter alone runs around $100 to $120 depending on color.
The XO’s claim to fame is its planetary geared cutting system. Internal gears control each of the guillotine blades so they move inward at the same rate for a more precise cut. The blades are spring loaded, so you depress a button on the top of the cutter to release them ready for cutting.
During my time with the XO, I experienced smooth cuts on my cigars. The stainless steel blades have remained sharp. My only complaint other than the large size is that it’s a bit tough to see exactly where you’re cutting with the bulky outer “donut” ring. I would love to see a slimmed down version of this cutter.
I’ve always been a big fan of XIKAR cutters. They offer an excellent lifetime warranty, free leather sheathes, and high-quality materials. The XO is no exception. It’s well-designed with sturdy construction and reliable performance. It’s larger than what I like to carry around, so this remains a porch cutter for me. Price is a bit high for a cigar cutter, but it’s an awesome product. I highly recommend it.
